Big fish and great weather have been on offer for those lucky enough to be fishing around the Mackerel Islands lately. Ian McMahon (pictured) and the Cramer group headed out on the Island’s charter boat Thevenard 1, to some productive ground north of the island, with some big Red Emperor up to 8 kilos being boated. The boys also got stuck into a few good Wahoo with fish in the 6 – 8 kilo range taking deep-diving lures.
Mulloway, a rare catch around Thevenard, have been showing up at the cleaning station with reports of bigger 20 kilo plus being unstoppable around the reef. Sailfish are starting to make an appearance with one report of 30 sails being seen on a single school of tuna.
Shore based fishing on the high tides around the Island have been great lately with one resident staff member landing a nice 4 kilo Queenie on light gear which took a liking to a Halco Rooster Popper. Small GTs in the 2 kilo range are also thick in the area.
All things fishy are pointing to a great August up on the Mackerel Islands!
